Summer In Europe: A Stylish and Practical Packing List for your European Summer Vacation

Packing for a summer vacation in Europe can feel like a fun puzzle — but also a bit overwhelming. You want to look chic while wandering cobblestone streets, exploring sun-soaked beaches, and sipping café lattes in Paris. But let’s be real: you also need to be comfortable and prepared for the inevitable unexpected moments (hello, impromptu hike or sudden downpour!). Don’t worry, though — I’ve got you covered with a packing list that combines style with practicality, so you can enjoy every moment of your European getaway without stress.

Lets start with the basics. This is not the most fun part of the list, but there are some items you can’t travel to Europe without:

Electronic Packing List

1. Universal Travel Adaptor

One of the most crucial items in your bag! Europe has different plug types, and without an adapter, you won’t be able to charge any of your devices. This universal travel adapter is great since it works in multiple region – including Europe, the UK, Canada, and Australia. It also has multiple USB and USB-C ports so you can charge multiple devices at once without carrying extra bricks!

2. Voltage Converter (for Hair Tools & More!)

Not everything is dual-voltage! While most phones, laptops, and cameras can handle both 110V and 220V, many hair tools (like curling irons and straighteners) cannot. If you plan to bring styling tools, you must pack a voltage converter to avoid frying your device—or worse, tripping a circuit breaker (trust me, been there!). A well-rated voltage converter designed for hair dryers is your safest bet, but if you travel frequently, consider buying a 220V hair tool once you arrive in Europe.

3. Laptop & Charger

Need to squeeze in some work between sightseeing? Or just want a bigger screen for watching movies? If you’re bringing a laptop, don’t forget the charger!

4. Camera, Memory Cards & Extra Batteries

If you’re a photography lover, a good travel camera will elevate your vacation shots. Just don’t forget extra SD cards and batteries—especially if you plan on snapping tons of photos in iconic spots.

5. SD Card & Transfer Device (For Extra Storage!)

Running out of phone storage mid-trip is the worst. A portable SD card and a transfer device lets you quickly offload photos and free up space for more snapshots of dreamy European landscapes.

6. Headphones

Few things are more annoying than realizing you forgot your headphones at the airport. Whether you’re tuning out airplane noise, listening to podcasts on a train ride, or just vibing to your favorite travel playlist, a solid pair of headphones is a must. And if you’re bringing wireless earbuds, don’t forget the charger!

5. Portable Charger (Don’t Get Caught with 1% Battery!)

Your phone is your lifeline when traveling—GPS, photos, reservations, translations, and emergency contacts. A portable charger is non-negotiable for long days of exploring. I always pack two:

  • A lightweight, pocket-sized charger just for my phone—ideal for when out all day with a small purse.
  • A high-capacity power bank with multiple charging ports—perfect for long travel days or charging multiple devices at once.

5. E-Reader or Tablet

If you love reading on the beach or winding down with a book at night, an e-reader is a fantastic addition. Unlike a phone or tablet, e-readers like a Kindle work great in bright sunlight, making them perfect for lazy afternoons on the French Riviera or Greek islands.

Summer Europe Clothing Packing List

Packing for a European summer vacation is all about looking effortlessly chic while staying comfortable and practical for long days of exploring. With a mix of lightweight layers, versatile outfits, and comfy footwear, you’ll be ready for everything—from cobblestone streets to rooftop dinners.

1. Lightweight Dresses (2-3) – Breezy & Stylish

A flowy midi or maxi dress is a summer travel essential. They’re effortless, chic, and perfect for both daytime sightseeing and dinner by the sea. Look for breathable fabrics like linen or cotton to stay cool in the summer heat.

2. Comfortable & Chic Bottoms (2-3 Pairs)

  • Linen or cotton shorts – Stylish and breathable for hot days.
  • Skirt or Skort – A comfy skort is great if you are hiking and want to be comfy but cute.
  • Flowy wide-leg pants – Perfect for looking put-together while staying comfy.
  • Pair of jeans or chinos – Ideal for cooler evenings or destinations like London or Amsterdam.

Style tip: Choose neutral colors so you can mix and match with multiple tops!

3. Versatile Tops (4-5)

  • Casual tank tops or t-shirts – Perfect for layering and staying cool.
  • 1-2 Dressier tops – For nights out or a fancier dinner.
  • Lightweight button-up shirt – Works as a layering piece, beach cover-up, or tied at the waist for a chic look.

4. A Stylish & Functional Jacket (1-2)

Even in summer, evenings can get chilly, especially near the coast or in cities like London and Paris. Pack:

  • A light denim or linen jacket – Goes with everything!
  • A lightweight rain jacket – If you’re visiting destinations with unpredictable weather (hello, London!).

5. Comfortable Walking Shoes (2-3 Pairs)

European cities = cobblestone streets, so comfy shoes are a must!

  • Comfy sneakers – Perfect for walking all day (white sneakers are a classic).
  • Stylish sandals – Choose a supportive pair for all-day wear.
  • One dressy pair (optional) – A low wedge or strappy sandal for nights out.

Pro tip: Break in your shoes before your trip to avoid blisters!

6. Swimsuit & Cover-Up (If You’re Hitting the Beach!)

If your itinerary includes the Amalfi Coast, the Algarve, or the French Riviera, don’t forget:

✔ 1-2 swimsuits – A mix of one-piece and two piece options.
✔ A cover-up or sarong – If you can find one that doubles as a casual day outfit, even better.

7. Pajamas & Loungewear

Pack lightweight sleepwear that can double as comfy lounge clothes.

8. Undergarments & Accessories

The European summer sun can be strong, so sun protection and hydration are key!
✔ Underwear – Always pack extra
✔ Plenty of socks – A must for sneakers!
✔ 2-3 bras (including a comfy bralette)
✔ Lightweight scarf – A stylish accessory, and great for covering up at churches.
✔ Jewelry – Jewelry dresses up any outfit. If you don’t have time to do your hair for dinner, adding a pair of earrings immediately elevates an outfit and makes it look like you tried harder than you did!

9. A Crossbody Bag or Backpack

  • A small crossbody bag – Crossbody bags are great as they are more secure than other bags as they are on the front of your body and harder for pick pocketers. My favorite travel bag is this one from Poppy & Peonies. It has plenty of space, different color options, plus it is a women owned small business!
  • A lightweight daypack – If you need more space for day trips.

10. Sunglasses & Hat

The European sun is strong in places like Spain and Italy—pack:

  • Cute pair of sunglasses (bonus points for UV protection!)
  • A packable sun hat (Optional) – Keeps you cool and stylish.

Toiletries and Personal Items

Packing toiletries for Europe is all about keeping it light! Many European cities have pharmacies where you can buy anything you forget and try out some amazing new products, so focus on must-haves and multi-use products!

1. Skincare & SPF

The European summer sun can be strong, so sun protection and hydration are key!
Facial cleanser – Opt for a solid cleanser or travel-size liquid to save space.
Moisturizer – A hydrating, lightweight formula to combat sun exposure.
Sunscreen (SPF 30+ or higher!) – A must for face and body—opt for reef-safe if you’ll be swimming!
Lip balm with SPF – Prevent sunburned lips!
Makeup remover wipes or micellar water – Travel-sized for quick makeup removal.
