WARM WEATHER GETAWAY TO RIVIERA MAYA UNDER $950

A week in Cancun and the Mayan Riviera is all about relaxing by the beach, eating amazing food, exploring Mayan ruins, and taking advantage of water sports.

The best part is that there are some great deals in January! If you book a package through Expedia a number of hotels are covering the airfare!

Price per person based on 2 people can be as cheap as $950 (hotels, accommodations, transportation, and ALL FOOD DRINKS). See below for recommendations for each budget.

Note: All pricing is accurate at date of post, but is subject to change as hotels/airlines frequently update pricing. Pricing is usually accurate for 24-72 hours, may be longer especially for hotels.

What to do in the Mayan Riviera

Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are a great place for anyone looking for a mix of relaxation and exploration. If you stay at an all inclusive resort, you will have plenty of activities available on the property including non-motorized water sports, daily pool activities, and more. My top recommendations outside of your resort are:

Flight from Chicago to Cancun

There are a number of affordable flight options to Cancun in January. The cheapest options are on Frontier Airlines which is not my favorite (is it anyone’s?). But it is hard to beat the price, and for short flights like this, well worth the savings. For those that haven’t flown Frontier, it is a budget airline and your ticket only includes a personal item. For a short trip like this, I usually can fit what I need without paying for bags. Nonstop roundtrip tickets from January 27th - February 2nd are $168 per person. Usually I recommend booking directly with the airline, but if you are heading to an all-inclusive I find the best deals on sites like Expedia. When you book a package (Flight + Hotel) together, the hotels usually cover a portion or all of the flight.

Hotel Recommendations

The hotels below are my recommendation in the Mayan Riviera. These three resorts offers slightly different experiences and vary based on your budget.

Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort All Inclusive: Located in Puerto Morelos, Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort All Inclusive is right on the beach. Located on the Marina, the hotel offers a swim-up bar, a poolside bar, beach massages, and sun loungers. The gym offers yoga classes and aerobics classes; other things to do include windsurfing, fishing, and kayaking.
Cost: $884/person based on double occupancy - INCLUDES AIRFAIRE!

Wyndham Alltra Cancun All Inclusive Resort: Located on the beach, Wyndham Alltra Cancun All Inclusive Resort is in Zona Hotelera, a neighborhood in Cancun with good shopping. Enjoy a meal at one of the aparthotel's 7 restaurants. This is an aparthotel, and each apartment provides a sofa bed and a refrigerator, plus free WiFi and a plasma TV with cable channels. Added amenities include free minibar items, a balcony, and room service. They offer a wide variety of room/apartment sizes and this is a great option if traveling with larger groups.
Cost: $1,080/person based on double occupancy - INCLUDES AIRFAIRE!

Haven Riviera Cancun - All Inclusive - Adults Only: One of my favorite hotels in this area and worth the extra money if you can afford to splurge. With a beachfront location, free beach cabanas, and a beach bar, this property is the perfect place to soak up some sun. The hotel has 7 onsite restaurants, which feature local and international cuisine and garden views. Yoga classes and aerobics classes are offered at the 24-hour gym; other things to do include beach yoga and beach volleyball. There is also a golf course!
Cost: $1,597/person based on double occupancy - INCLUDES AIRFAIRE!

Getting Around Riviera Maya

The best way to get around the Riviera Maya area is to book private transportation.

Airport transportation varies from $40-70 per person roundtrip depending on the hotel you choose.

Total Cost of Transportation: $60 per person.
