Lisbon has some spectacular fine dining and Michelin Star restaurants, but for most those are not in the travel budget. 1. Mensagem Restaurant & Bar- Best Restaurant with a View in Lisbon

It can be hard to find a restaurant with good food and a view, but Mensagem does just that. The restaurant is located in the Pessoa Hotel and offers intimate niches inside and two rooftops outside. Enjoy great tasting dishes while taking in the sunset with a glass of wine.

Palace Chiado is a great restaurant located in a restored palace. Originally built in the early nineteenth century is now home to a bar on the main level and a restaurant on the upper floors. Experience a unique dining experience under fresco ceilings. The menu is great to share with a group, and the Crispy Vanilla dessert is spectacular, providing a light and airing finish to your meal.

4. Cantinho do Avillez - Best José Avillez Restaurant on a Budget

One of the most famous Portuguese chef’s is José Avillez. He has a number of restaurants in Lisbon and Belcanto is the most well known but due the price and the reservation waitlist, I have not been able to try. I have tried a number of his other restaurants and recommend Cantinho do Avillez. The menu has a mi. I highly recommend the scallops with mushroom risotto, which was very rich and cooked perfectly.

5. Bairrices - Best Portugese Affordable Tasting Menu

Bairrices is a great dinner option to try a multitude of Portuguese dishes in one sitting and at an extremely affordable price. The offer a tasting menu of 20+ dishes plus an additional 5-6 desserts, all for €20. There sangria pitchers are also a very affordable option and very refreshing after a day of walking. For those die hard foodies, this may not be the place for you as the flavors are more traditional, but for anyone looking to experience Portuguese cuisine, this place offers tasty small plates so you can try a little bit of everything and is well worth a stop. It is family run and the staff is very friendly and helpful. This restaurant also has a number of outdoor tables, so if the weather cooperates you can enjoy dinner outside.

Consensual offers a clean design with an intimate atmosphere. It is located in a popular area but is quieter than some of the surrounding restaurants. They offer a limited tapas menu but everything we tried was amazing, from the tuna tartare, roast duck, to the goat cheese ice cream.
