For those of you that love good food, Lisbon has some amazing restaurants. This food guide of the top 15 restaurants in Lisbon is for moderate budgets. Lisbon has some spectacular fine dining and Michelin Star restaurants, but for most those are not in the travel budget. All of the restaurants below prioritizes amazing flavors and experience, but also location. These restaurants are all located in the most popular area for visitors (Barrio Alto, Chiado/Baxia, Alfama, etc).

1. Mensagem Restaurant & Bar- Best Restaurant with a View in Lisbon

It can be hard to find a restaurant with good food and a view, but Mensagem does just that. The restaurant is located in the Pessoa Hotel and offers intimate niches inside and two rooftops outside. Enjoy great tasting dishes while taking in the sunset with a glass of wine.

This small tapas and wine bar offers a very flavorful dining experience. The menu is a mix of starters, small places, flatbreads and cheese and meat boards. If you like live music and great wines, Grau Duoro is a must visit on your trip to Lisbon.

Palace Chiado is a great restaurant located in a restored palace. Originally built in the early nineteenth century is now home to a bar on the main level and a restaurant on the upper floors. Experience a unique dining experience under fresco ceilings. The menu is great to share with a group, and the Crispy Vanilla dessert is spectacular, providing a light and airing finish to your meal.

4. Cantinho do Avillez - Best José Avillez Restaurant on a Budget

One of the most famous Portuguese chef’s is José Avillez. He has a number of restaurants in Lisbon and Belcanto is the most well known but due the price and the reservation waitlist, I have not been able to try. I have tried a number of his other restaurants and recommend Cantinho do Avillez. The menu has a mi. I highly recommend the scallops with mushroom risotto, which was very rich and cooked perfectly.

5. Bairrices - Best Portugese Affordable Tasting Menu

Bairrices is a great dinner option to try a multitude of Portuguese dishes in one sitting and at an extremely affordable price. The offer a tasting menu of 20+ dishes plus an additional 5-6 desserts, all for €20. There sangria pitchers are also a very affordable option and very refreshing after a day of walking. For those die hard foodies, this may not be the place for you as the flavors are more traditional, but for anyone looking to experience Portuguese cuisine, this place offers tasty small plates so you can try a little bit of everything and is well worth a stop. It is family run and the staff is very friendly and helpful. This restaurant also has a number of outdoor tables, so if the weather cooperates you can enjoy dinner outside.

6. Restaurante Consensual - Great Tapas Lisbon

Consensual offers a clean design with an intimate atmosphere. It is located in a popular area but is quieter than some of the surrounding restaurants. They offer a limited tapas menu but everything we tried was amazing, from the tuna tartare, roast duck, to the goat cheese ice cream.

Charming local cafe off the beaten track, but offers delicious flavors and large portions. This cafe was previously an antique store and the ambience still reflects the old style. An unassuming small cafe that offers great service and food, from the tuna to the desserts everything was beautifully presented and very affordable.
